Dhaka: The number of dengue-related fatalities in Bangladesh has surged to 185, with reported cases reaching a staggering 35,270, according to the latest update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DFHS).

Over the past 24 hours, nine more lives were claimed by the mosquito-borne disease, taking the death toll for this month alone to 138. The situation has become increasingly concerning as July recorded 27,292 new cases, in contrast to the 5,956 cases reported in the previous month.

Of the 2,293 fresh dengue cases documented in the past 24 hours, Dhaka witnessed the highest number with 1,238 cases. The total number of discharged dengue patients, who received treatment at various healthcare facilities across the country, stands at 27,622 since the beginning of the year until July 24.

In response to the escalating outbreak, Bangladesh health authorities have taken proactive measures to combat the spread of dengue. These efforts include intensified inspections to detect and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, as well as conducting anti-larval operations.

The situation remains critical as the outbreak continues to challenge healthcare systems and requires the collective efforts of the government, healthcare professionals, and the public to effectively manage and mitigate its impact on the population. Health authorities are urging citizens to stay vigilant, follow preventive measures, and seek medical attention promptly if symptoms of dengue are observed.

The battle against dengue in Bangladesh highlights the significance of ongoing research, public awareness campaigns, and community engagement in tackling vector-borne diseases. The nation remains committed to curbing the outbreak's escalation and finding long-term solutions to protect its citizens' health and well-being.
